Maya perked up, her heart racing as she saw the headlights pierce through the darkness. The train screeched to a halt, and she rushed toward the open doors. Just as she stepped inside, she noticed a small, scruffy dog sitting alone in the corner, its big brown eyes filled with an unmistakable sadness.
“Hey there, little one,” she said softly, kneeling to get a better look. The dog wagged its tail but didn’t move closer. It was clear that it had been left behind, abandoned at the station.
Maya felt a tug at her heart. She had always wanted a dog, but the timing had never seemed right. Yet here was this little creature, alone and in need. With a deep breath, she decided to act. “Come here, buddy,” she coaxed gently, extending her hand.
To her surprise, the dog approached cautiously, sniffing her fingers before nuzzling against her palm. It felt like fate. With the train already moving, she made a snap decision. “You’re coming with me.”
Maya quickly found an empty seat, the dog curling up beside her as she pulled out her phone. She scrolled through her contacts, her heart racing. She had a long way to go, but she couldn’t leave the dog behind. She texted her friend Clara: “Can I bring home a surprise?”
