Emma sat quietly at her desk, staring at the calendar. Today was her birthday, but the day felt just like any other. The morning had passed without a single message or call from friends or family, and a pang of disappointment settled in her chest. She tried to shake off the sadness, telling herself that maybe everyone was just busy.
As she sipped her lukewarm coffee, she decided to go for a walk to clear her mind. The sun was shining brightly, and the fresh air felt good against her skin. Maybe some time outside would lift her spirits.
As she strolled through the park, she noticed a small group of children gathered around a table.
Emma hesitated but then approached the table. โSure, Iโd love to!โ She picked up a piping bag filled with colorful frosting and joined in the fun.
As they decorated, the little girl introduced herself. โIโm Lily! Weโre making these for my grandmaโs birthday!โ
โThat’s wonderful, Lily! Iโm Emma,โ she replied, feeling a warmth spreading through her. The laughter of the children was infectious, and she forgot her earlier gloom.
