I hoped for extra treats, belly rubs, and maybe a new toy. But as the day went on, something didn’t feel quite right. No one had come to me with a cheerful “Happy Birthday, Dan!” or given me a special birthday treat.
I watched my humans bustling around the house, hoping they’d suddenly remember. I brought them my favorite squeaky toy, nudging it towards them with my nose, but they just patted my head and went back to what they were doing. My tail slowly drooped, and I felt a little glum. Maybe they had forgotten. Maybe my birthday wasn’t as special as I’d hoped.
The hours ticked by, and my enthusiasm waned. I curled up in my favorite spot, resting my head on my paws, feeling a bit left out. I imagined all the wonderful things that might have happened if they’d remembered—extra treats, a new squeaky toy, maybe even a special walk. But now, it seemed like just another day.
