David woke up on his birthday with a flicker of hope, expecting a chorus of “Happy Birthday” wishes, extra treats, and maybe a big walk around the neighborhood. But as the morning passed, things felt quiet—too quiet. No messages, no calls, just the usual routine sounds of the house. David tried to stay upbeat, but as the day wore on, his excitement faded, leaving him feeling like his birthday had simply blended into an ordinary day.
Sighing, he lay down by the window, watching the world outside. A squirrel darted by, pausing to twitch its tail at him, but David didn’t even budge. The day felt like it had lost its sparkle.
Just as he started to doze off, he heard a familiar voice. It was Nar, his loyal friend, peeking around the corner. “Hey, David! I heard you were having a bit of a quiet birthday,” he said, his tail wagging softly.
David managed a small smile, though his heart still felt heavy. “Yeah, it’s just… I thought it’d be a little more special.”
