Leo was a popular video content creator who moved into a high-rise city apartment to escape his chaotic childhood memories.

When he was seven, a neighbor’s massive mastiff had chased him down an alleyway, leaving him with a deep, unspoken fear of large dogs.
To overcome this lingering phobia, his therapist suggested adopting a pet, which led him to Max, an incredibly energetic Golden Retriever.
However, Max grew much larger and faster than Leo anticipated, often overwhelming him with his pure, unadulterated strength.
Today, Max could sense that Leo was hiding a massive wave of anxiety about an upcoming business meeting.
The dog wanted to tell him that everything would be completely fine, but his only language was frantic barks and physical touch.
As they waited near the black elevator doors, Max suddenly launched his heavy front paws directly onto Leo’s chest.
Leo slammed backward against the hard wall, his eyes wide with sudden panic as the old childhood fear rushed back into his mind.
“Max, down!”
“Back down!”
Max ignored the command completely, his tongue lolling out happily as he let out a series of booming, echoing barks.
“Hey, chill out!”
“Calm down!”
Leo gasped for air, closing his eyes tightly until the big dog finally dropped its front paws back to the tiled floor.
Max spun around in a joyous circle, wagging his tail like a maniac before sitting directly on Leo’s white sneakers.
“You really scared me just now, buddy.”
Max looked up, tilting his head and giving a soft, reassuring whine that sounded exactly like an apology.
“I know you just wanted to protect me from my own stressed thoughts.”

“Let’s skip the elevator and take a long, quiet walk in the park instead.”
