Two little puppies sat close together on the cold pavement. Max, the bigger of the two, wrapped his paws around his smaller brother, Benny, holding him tight. Today was Benny’s birthday, but there was no one around to celebrate, no excited voices or wagging tails, just the two of them huddled together.
Benny looked up at Max with sad, questioning eyes. “Why doesn’t anyone remember my birthday?” he seemed to ask. Max didn’t have an answer. All he could do was pull Benny closer, trying to share some warmth and comfort in the lonely night. Max’s heart ached for his brother. He wished he could give him the world, or at least a soft bed and a loving family to make this day special.
As they sat there, Benny rested his head against Max’s chest, his little body shivering not just from the cold, but from the sadness of feeling forgotten. Max whispered a promise, “One day, Benny, we’ll find a home where they’ll remember every one of your birthdays.” For now, they had each other, and that love was the one thing they could hold onto.
