On a bright sunny morning, Shelby woke up feeling a little different. Today was her 8th birthday, and she sensed that something special was about to happen. Her family always made a fuss over her special day, and she was ready for the love and treats that awaited her.
As the hours passed, however, Shelby noticed that the usual birthday preparations weren’t happening. No streamers hung from the ceiling, and there were no delightful smells wafting from the kitchen. Disappointment crept into her heart as she watched her family go about their day, seemingly forgetting that it was a day meant for celebration.
Just when Shelby was about to settle into her cozy spot for a nap, her family gathered in the living room, a little guilty look on their faces. “Shelby, we’re so sorry! We’ve been so busy, we forgot to prepare your birthday party!” they exclaimed.
But instead of feeling sad, Shelby’s tail began to wag. They brought out a big, delicious dog cake topped with her favorite treats. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday,” and her heart swelled with joy. There were toys, belly rubs, and a special walk in the park to top off the day.
