Cleo woke up on her 4th birthday to the smell of pancakes wafting through the air. Her tail wagged furiously as she bounced out of bed, ready for a day of celebration. Her family had promised a special birthday breakfast, and Cleo could hardly contain her excitement.
As she trotted into the kitchen, her heart sank a little. While there were pancakes on the table, they were for the humans, and Cleo was given her usual kibble. “Maybe they’ll remember later,” she thought, trying to stay hopeful.
After breakfast, her family took her to the park, which made her tail wag again. She loved running through the grass, chasing butterflies, and playing with her favorite squeaky toy. But as the sun began to set, she noticed that no one had brought any treats or gifts for her. Cleo’s heart felt heavy.
Just when she thought her birthday was a bit disappointing, her family gathered around her, holding a small cake adorned with a single candle. “Happy Birthday, Cleo!” they all cheered. Her eyes sparkled with joy as they sang. They even had special dog treats and toys for her!
Cleo realized that even though the day hadn’t started as she had hoped, it turned into a beautiful celebration surrounded by love. She licked the frosting off the cake, feeling like the luckiest dog in the world.
