Heaven On Earth Cake
Ingredients:
1 angel food cake (pre-made or from a boxed mix, cooled)
1 can (540 mL, 18 ounces) cherry pie filling
1 package (102 grams, 3.6 ounces) 4-serving instant vanilla pudding mix
1½ cups 2% milk
1 cup sour cream
8 ounces Cool Whip
Sliced almonds (for garnish, optional)
Directions:
Prepare the Cake Base:
Cut the angel food cake into cubes, about 1 inch in size. This will serve as the light, fluffy base for your dessert.
Layer the Cake:
In a 9×9 inch cake pan, arrange half of the cake pieces evenly at the bottom.
Add Cherry Pie Filling:
Spread ⅔ of the cherry pie filling over the cake layer, allowing the tartness of the cherries to complement the sweetness of the cake.
Second Layer of Cake:
Layer the remaining cake cubes over the cherry pie filling to create a delightful sandwich effect.
Prepare the Pudding Mixture:
In a medium bowl, mix the pudding mix, milk, and sour cream until smooth (about 2 minutes). Spread this creamy mixture over the cake layer.
Top with Cool Whip:
Spread the Cool Whip over the pudding layer, creating a light, airy contrast to the denser layers below.
Final Cherry Layer:
Top with the remaining cherry pie filling for a burst of fruity flavor.
Chill and Serve:
Chill the dessert in the fridge for 4 to 5 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the layers to set. This step is crucial for easy slicing and serving.
Garnish (Optional):
Before serving, optionally sprinkle slivered almonds on top for added crunch and a decorative touch.
