“Hey there, buddy,” Dean called softly, approaching the puppy with caution. The little one wagged its tail hesitantly but didn’t move closer. The chain clinked as the puppy tried to get up, and Dean could see that it was heavy, too large for such a small creature.
Dean knelt down, keeping his voice gentle. “You’re safe now. I’m here to help.” He examined the chain, noticing how it was rusted and tight around the puppy’s collar. Without hesitation, he reached for the lock, hoping it would be simple to open. To his dismay, it was stuck fast.
“Hang on, little guy. I’ll get you free,” Dean promised. He stood up and scanned the area for anything that could help. Nearby, he spotted a rock that looked heavy enough to break the chain. With determination, he grabbed the rock and returned to the puppy.
