The cold neon lights of the transit station buzzed overhead as Maya slammed her hands down onto the ticket counter. Her breathing was ragged, her eyes wide with a mixture of terror and fierce determination as she stared down the attendant.

“Who used this yesterday?” she demanded, sliding a torn ticket across the desk.
The clerk looked up slowly, his expression entirely deadpan. “You did.”
Maya’s jaw tightened. “I arrived in this country today.”
The clerk leaned in, unblinking. “I remember your red suitcase.”
Before Maya could process the impossible claim, the clerk dropped a detail that completely froze the blood in her veins. “The other woman had a small scar beside her eyebrow.”
Maya gasped, her hand flying up to press against her own forehead, right over the faint, familiar mark she had carried since childhood. Her mind reeled. My sister has that.
Just then, footfalls echoed behind her. Maya spun around to see a familiar man walking up with two hot coffees in his hand—the very person she had trusted to help her navigate this journey. But the pieces were violently clicking together.
“You said my sister didn’t know I was coming,” Maya accused, her voice trembling as she glared at him. “You collected her from the platform. Where did you take her?!”
The man stopped, the warmth draining entirely from his face. He met her gaze with an unreadable, chilling calm. “Somewhere she asked me not to tell you.”
The silence that followed was suffocating. Realizing she had walked right into a calculated trap and that her traveling companion was part of the conspiracy, Maya didn’t wait for answers. She lunged forward, grabbed one of the hot coffee cups, and flung it straight into the man’s face before sprinting blindly into the sprawling, subterranean labyrinth of the transit tunnels.
As she navigated the dark, echoing maintenance corridors away from the platform, she realized the terrifying truth: her sister hadn’t disappeared by accident, and whoever was pulling the strings wanted Maya isolated and cornered. Hiding behind a rusted freight pillar to catch her breath, Maya clutched her backpack tightly, vowing that she wouldn’t stop running until she uncovered where her sister was being held—even if it meant hunting down the shadow organization on her own.
