What happens in the video
An elderly man wearing worn gardening clothes and boots stands beside a colourful flower display inside a glass-roofed conservatory. A younger man in a light-purple suit approaches, and they exchange words while formally dressed guests watch nearby. The older man holds a small item near his waist and occasionally gestures towards the plants. The clip ends without revealing the reason for their disagreement or how it is resolved.
Imagined story and continuation
Arthur had been at the conservatory since sunrise, checking the displays before the evening reception. When the guests arrived, he stayed beside the flowers a little longer than planned.
A young event coordinator approached.
“Excuse me. Are you still working? We’re opening this section to guests.”
“I know,” Arthur replied. “I was asked to stay.”
The coordinator glanced at his muddy boots, then at the people gathering behind them.
“There may have been a misunderstanding.”
Arthur reached into his pocket for a folded invitation.
Before he could open it, a woman near the back of the room called his name.
“There you are. We’re ready for you.”
She joined them beside the display and explained that Arthur was the retired gardener they had invited to speak. He had returned that morning to help the team prepare.
The coordinator looked at the invitation, embarrassed.
“I’m sorry. I thought you hadn’t been told the event was starting.”
Arthur glanced down at his clothes.
“I meant to change. Then I noticed a few plants needed attention.”
The woman smiled. “That sounds about right.”
She led him towards the guests, but Arthur stopped beside a cluster of orange flowers.
“Could we do the talk here?”
As everyone gathered around, he explained how he and his late wife had grown those plants from a handful of seedlings. She had worked at the conservatory too, keeping careful notebooks that the younger gardeners still used.
Arthur unfolded the paper in his hand. Inside the invitation was a photograph of them standing in that same spot, surrounded by much smaller plants.
For a moment, he couldn’t continue.
The coordinator quietly brought him a chair.
After the talk, he stayed to help Arthur gather his things.
“Would you show me which flowers she planted?” he asked.
Arthur put away the photograph.
“Yes,” he said. “But you’ll have to come off the main path. Your shoes might get dirty.”
The young man followed him between the beds.
