The Cyclist Wouldn’t Leave Him Alone

DailyHorizon October 30, 2026

What happens in the video

An older wheelchair user travels along a park path while a cyclist wearing a helmet and orange reflective vest moves beside him. The cyclist gestures repeatedly during their exchange as onlookers follow. A uniformed officer and a woman approach near the end, and the woman bends to speak with the wheelchair user. The clip does not establish the cause or final outcome.

Continuation:

Arthur had chosen the park because the path was familiar. He knew where it widened, where the shade began, and which bench overlooked the pond.

He heard a bicycle bell behind him and moved slightly to one side. There was little space beside the tree roots, so he waited for the wider section ahead.

The cyclist pulled alongside before he reached it.

“You could have moved sooner.”

Arthur looked up. “I was finding somewhere safe.”

Ben had been trying to complete his usual route before work. A few seconds of waiting had felt like a personal obstruction, and now he was defending an impatience he should simply have let pass.

He pointed down the path. Arthur tried to continue, but the bicycle stayed close enough to make him uncomfortable.

“Please give me some room.”

A couple behind them stopped chatting. The woman asked Ben to step back. He answered her instead, and the exchange grew louder.

By the time a park officer approached, Arthur no longer wanted to reach the pond. He wanted the cyclist to leave him alone.

The officer asked Ben to move his bicycle away from the wheelchair. A park volunteer named Nina approached Arthur from the front and asked whether he was all right.

“I am now,” he replied. “I’d like to get past.”

She did not grab his chair. She asked whether he wanted company, and he said yes.

While the officer spoke with Ben and the witnesses, Nina walked beside Arthur towards the wider path. After a few quiet minutes, he asked whether they could still stop by the pond.

They watched a duck struggling to manage a piece of floating leaf. Arthur smiled despite himself.

Later, the officer returned and explained that the incident had been recorded. Arthur could give his account without having to confront the cyclist again.

Ben offered an apology through the officer. Arthur agreed to hear it from a distance.

“I was impatient,” Ben said. “Then I kept following you. I shouldn’t have.”

Arthur nodded. “You had plenty of room to leave me alone.”

There was no handshake. Ben walked his bicycle away.

The following week, Arthur returned to the park with his neighbour. He felt tense when he heard another bell, but this cyclist slowed and waited until the path widened.

“Morning,” the rider said as she passed with room to spare.

Arthur returned the greeting.

At the pond, he told his neighbour about Nina and the absurd duck. The encounter with Ben was still part of that earlier visit, but it no longer occupied the whole memory.

Before heading home, he completed his usual circuit. He had wanted a peaceful morning in the park, and he still intended to have one.
