It is amazing how quickly a normal routine can descend into total absurdity. Our family was already dealing with a massive wave of gossip because my 70-year-old mother-in-law had unexpectedly remarried a gentleman in her nursing home facility.
We were so busy fielding phone calls from shocked relatives that we almost didn’t notice the strange situation developing right under our own roof. Out of nowhere, my partner began to smell awful. That is, he absolutely began to REEK of a highly unusual, overpowering odor. It was driving me crazy, and it was clear that he was hiding immense discomfort and embarrassment about the entire situation.
I knew that ignoring a sudden, radical shift in personal hygiene and body odor was a terrible idea, as it can often point to deep-seated health issues. Desperate to find a cure and ensure he was completely healthy, I decided to support him by accompanying him to a professional medical clinic.
I scheduled a comprehensive visit with a respected urologist, assuming that a specialist would be able to run the proper tests and identify the root cause of this terrible scent.
The appointment started off completely normal, but things took a sharp, unexpected turn very quickly. Exactly four minutes after entering his private office, the doctor looked at me, requested that I wait outside in the hallway, and promptly shut the door. I sat on the uncomfortable plastic chairs in the waiting room, staring at the clock on the wall, letting my imagination run wild with terrifying scenarios.
A few minutes later, the door handle turned. The urologist walked out, but he looked completely different than he did when we first walked in. He was blushing furiously from ear to ear the moment he made eye contact with me.
The doc was laughing so much that you honestly should see it for yourself to believe a medical professional could lose control like that. He was practically bending over with giggles, trying to clear his throat to speak.
I crossed my arms, completely flabbergasted by the entire scene. “You’re laughing, but why? Please tell me what’s going on, doctor!” I pleaded. Just then, the door opened wide and my husband finally emerged from the examination room. He looked completely defeated, his cheeks burning a bright shade of pink. He looked at me, completely mortified, and reached out to hold my arm. He sighed deeply and said, “I’m at a loss for words, sweetie, but I…”
