Her pristine, custom-ordered European import vehicle was idling smoothly by the curb as her personal driver waited.
Suddenly, Maya lost her footing on a patch of slick wet leaves near the sidewalk.
“Out of the way, I’m so sorry, out of the way.”
The bike skidded violently sideways, the heavy metal handlebar smashing directly into the car’s intricate side mirror with a sickening crunch.

Maya quickly stabilized her bicycle, her face turning completely pale as she looked up at the furious older woman.

“You completely shattered the sensor.”
Maya took a deep, trembling breath, desperately gripping the handles of her bike.
“I’ll cover the repair costs.”
Victoria let out a cold, deeply condescending laugh as the gathering crowd watched the confrontation unfold.
“Can your courier agency actually afford the liability on a vehicle like this?”
“This car was custom-built in Germany, and the safety sensor alone costs more than your entire bicycle fleet.”
“Ma’am, my agency has full commercial coverage, and I will personally ensure the claim is expedited today.”
“I am delivering a rare bone marrow serum to the children’s hospital right now, which is why I was riding so fast.”
Victoria’s icy expression softened just a fraction as she glanced down at the medical cooler strapped tightly to Maya’s cargo rack.
“A medical delivery does not give you permission to destroy property on the city streets, young lady.”

“Give my driver your insurance card immediately, and then get moving before your delivery window expires completely.”
