They Had Travelled to Visit Someone Waiting Upstairs

DailyHorizon October 28, 2026

What happens in the video

An elderly couple in worn clothing stand outside an entrance marked as a paediatric ward. A suited man gestures towards them and moves or positions a metal barrier across their route. The couple hold papers and continue trying to explain. A nurse carrying a clipboard approaches with another woman and joins the conversation. The clip ends before access or the purpose of the visit is clarified.

Continuation:

Rosa had kept every drawing her granddaughter sent.

The latest showed a hospital bed, a window, and two stick figures holding flowers. Beneath them, the child had written, “You and Grandad.”

Rosa folded it into the envelope containing the visiting information. They had taken two buses and walked the final stretch, arriving tired but early.

At the entrance, a staff member told them they could not go through that door. Construction work had temporarily changed the route.

They tried to explain whom they were visiting. He pointed towards another part of the building, then positioned a barrier across the entrance.

Rosa’s husband, Luis, held out the letter. “Could you show us where this is?”

The man repeated his instruction more loudly. That did not make it clearer.

Rosa felt panic rise. She worried that they had missed the visiting window, misunderstood the day, or travelled all that way only to disappoint the child waiting upstairs.

A nurse approaching with a clipboard noticed the exchange. She asked the couple to step somewhere quieter, then checked their details privately.

They had arrived at the correct department. They simply needed the temporary visitor route and the usual checks before entering.

The nurse explained each step. Another staff member accompanied them to reception while the barrier issue was discussed separately.

Luis stopped apologising once he realised they had not done anything wrong.

Upstairs, their granddaughter spotted them before they reached the bed.

“You came!”

Rosa laughed and cried at the same time. She had promised herself she wouldn’t, but the relief was too much.

They had brought no enormous surprise, only a favourite storybook and a soft toy that had been waiting at home. For the next hour, Luis read badly in three different voices while the child corrected him.

Before leaving, Rosa asked where they should enter next time. The nurse wrote down the route clearly and checked that they understood it.

Later, the hospital received feedback about the signage and the way the entrance conversation had been handled. The family did not need to be wealthy donors or important visitors for that feedback to matter.

A week later, the couple returned. The signs were clearer, and someone at reception recognised the letter immediately.

Rosa’s granddaughter had made another picture. This one showed three people laughing beside a bed.

Rosa put it with the others. She would remember the difficult entrance, but she had a better picture of what happened after it.
