The grand rotunda of the historic city hall was bathed in warm, cinematic light as the wedding reception reached its peak. Guests in elegant black-tie attire stood in a wide circle around the central marble fountain, watching the newlyweds share what appeared to be the most romantic moment of the evening. The bride, stunning in an intricate lace gown and flowing veil, leaned into her husband’s arms.
The groom looked deeply into her eyes, smiling warmly as he dipped her back over the shimmering turquoise water of the fountain. “I love you,” he whispered softly, his voice echoing with genuine affection. The romantic tension was palpable, and more than a few guests reached for their tissues, expecting a picture-perfect kiss to cap off the magical moment.
Then, the romantic illusion shattered instantly. Instead of pulling her back up, the groom suddenly let go, dropping his bride backward directly into the deep fountain pool. A massive splash erupted, sending water cascading over the marble edge.
The groom completely lost it, bending over double as he erupted into hysterical laughter, pointing a finger at the water. The crowd gasped in collective shock before a wave of nervous laughter rippled through the room. A second later, the bride surfaced, her pristine white dress completely weighed down by water and her perfect hair stuck to her face. She sputtered, coughing up a mouthful of fountain water, her expression shifting from absolute bewilderment to blinding fury. “Why did you do that?!” she screamed, her voice echoing off the high domed ceiling.
The silence that followed was heavy, broken only by the steady dripping of water from her lace sleeves. The groom’s laughter began to taper off as he realized the sheer icy weight of the gaze fixed upon him. He extended a trembling hand to help her out of the pool, offering a weak, apologetic grin. Grabbing his outstretched hand with surprising strength, she gave a violent yank. The groom lost his footing on the slick marble tile and flew forward, landing face-first into the water with an even louder splash.
